Traps of AppleTV and YouTube - super cool- help I am addicted again! |

I have been waiting for this for a while, I had hang-off hacking my AppleTV to get a backdoor Youtube plugin... I actually was using the "Best of YouTube" podcast as a stop-gap. Finally, Apple released the v1.1 of the AppleTV software which has the new YouTube "plugin" that allows you to watch Youtube on your HDTV. Way cool!  That said, you need to be careful of a few of the traps...
Trap #1 - you run the risk of spending hours in front of your TV looking up silly clips of people playing guitars, America's got talent, watching incredibly funny George Bush-isms, weird-stuff and the odd infomercial. Trap #2 - you are going to spend a whole lot of time using your AppleTV... and perhaps fighting with other folk about which YouTube clips to view. Trap #3 - Beware of porn - I am not sure how YouTube censors things but I guess you may run the risk of viewing porn. So be careful if you have not implemented the new parental controls and you leave the AppleTV controller around for your kids to use or an unsuspecting grandmother. Currently the plugin only allows you to view a sub-set of YouTube content... but there's plenty there to keep you busy for a while. |
