Borneo, Sabah - Reasons to visit Print E-mail
Thursday, 13 September 2007

Jungle, wildlife, mountains, snorkelling - this tiny country, has a lot to offer. The people were welcoming, and the weather great and I can highly reccommend it as a place to visit, no matter what your budget.

Made up of 4 states, Sabah is part of Malaysia and the main tourist area.

 AREA

 ABOUT

Mount Kinabalu Located in Sabah, in the National Park. You can walk up Mount Kinabalu over two days on your own following the main track or take a guide with you and stay overnight just below the summit. At 4100 metres high, the view is beautiful from the top and you can find yourself above the clouds watching the sun rise.
Kota Kinabalu
The capital of Sabah, KK has grown a lot in the last few years. There are many attractions such as the local markets, Botanical Garden, Museum, Beaches and accommodation for any budget in town. Always something to do and people to watch.
WildlifeOrangutans can be seen in either the wild or at the rehabilitation centres like the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary near Sandakan. Danum Valley is a jungle containing many types of monkeys viewed best from the canopy walk, an ancient burial walk and houses a research centre. It was a special moment hearing the beds of a wild orangutan being made every night and morning and something I can highly reccommend. The probiscus monkey are also features of Borneo worth seeing along the Sukau river.
Beaches and Diving
There are many different islands off Sabah, most which are easily accessible via ferry. Sipidan Island is one of them and although quite expensive, the beaches are beautiful and you can snorkle or dive and may even see the local turtles.
