Honolulu, Hawaii is very built up and a bit kitsch or cheesy, out of date... only stayed one night here, as a stop-over. Very different to the North Shore or other areas of Hawaii which I would rather recommend.

You should be able to get some cheap accomodation so check out what special offers are on. 

So some of the reasons to go here include:

• visit the home of surfing
  
• check out where the Duke used to hang out
• use as stop-over to the North Shore of Hawaii to check out Sunset Beach, Pipeline, Backdoor Pipeline, Waimea Bay
• go to the Diamond head crater / volcano
• have a drink at a tiki bar
• swim and surf at Waikiki Beach
  
• stop-over in Honolulu to travel to other Hawaiian islands like Kauai and Maui.
