A Grandfather's perspecitve on hearing the news his Grand-daughter has Down Syndrome.
My first grandchild and all is wonderful. Happy kids and we are over the moon. Then a few days later I am on the way to the local shopping complex to meet my wife as I had dropped off her car for a service. I get a call from my son who explains Kayla has Downs Syndrome and I go to pieces. My wife is somewhere in the complex but has forgotten her mobile phone and I am crying and can’t think and cannot remember where we had to meet. So, in my state I go to the Centre Management and ask them to call my wife over their system and where to meet. That is how lost I was and how perplexed and ignorant I was about the situation. I have learnt so much since then. Kayla, with all the problems that she has had is the best grandchild that we could ever have had. My child and his astonishing wife have taken a difficult situation and made it wonderful. Seeing them face their obstructions with such determination and strength has been tremendous for their Kayla and for all of us around them. Grandpa Jossel |
